Sex, Gender and the Assault on Student Privacy:

The No Hate in Washington Campaign Agaist Initiatives 001 and 638

Thursday, October 8 -- 6:30 p.m., Nordic Hall, Coupeville

Join us for this presenation by Linden G. Jordan, a therapist focusing on trauma and LGBTQ+ issues and an expert on the science of gender.

This November, Washington voters will vote on two initiatives that would directly affect kids, families, and public schools across our state. The LWV of Washington believes both measures are flawed and would cause unintended harm to the young people they claim to help. LWVWA urges voters to reject Initiatives 26-001 and 26-638 and support policies that protect student privacy, safety, dignity, and opportunity.

Jordan, representing the No Hate in WA State campaign, holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology and taught psychology at Skagit Valley College. He also has a law degree and is a former deputy prosecuting attorney for King County. Through personal experience and extensive research, he has become an expert on the science of gender.

Tour the Island County Elections Office

Do you have friends or family who question the security and accuracy of our elections? Island County Elections Supervisor Michele Reagan says the best way to counter these comments is to see for yourself how ballots are processed and counted.

General Election Candidate Forums

Thursday, Oct. 15 and Thursday, Oct. 22, 6 p.m., via Zoom

Hear candidates' views on important issues before you cast your vote in the November 3 general election. We'll be holding candidate forums for the following races: Island County assessor, auditor, clerk, commissioner and prosecuting attorney, and Legislative District 10 state representatives. Zoom links for our online forums will be posted on our home page a few days before the events on our website.

Drivers for Democracy Needed! Oct. 27 and 28

For the Nov. 3 general election, voters are encouraged to use the official ballot drop boxes rather than the mail to return their ballots. For those who don’t drive or need rides, our League and Island Senior Resources are partnering to coordinate volunteer drivers. 

To volunteer, call Bailey at Island Senior Resources at 360-672-6505. They will offer short orientations in both Oak Harbor and Bayview. They will ask for copies of your driver’s license, registration, proof of insurance, and a form to sign. You can email it to them, or drop it off at their office in Oak Harbor or Bayview. https://senior-resources.org/about/contact/

The League and Senior Resources will promote the rides throughout the community. Rides will be coordinated by routes near the driver’s home, at times you are available on Tuesday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 28. You can volunteer for an hour or as long as you like. This is one way you can help empower voters and promote using the ballot drop boxes!
